The Office was one of the more popular sitcoms of all time. And thankfully there are a lot of great economic lessons in the series. In this video, we look back to the episode where Dwight Schrute creates his own currency scheme, “Schrute Bucks”. Designed to motivate employees, how close are Schrute Bucks to being an actual currency?
I discuss this topic with Dan Kuester, Director of Undergraduate studies in the economics department at Kansas State University. We examine Dwight’s focus on creating a new currency and a scene where Creed attempts to flood the market with counterfeit Schrute Bucks and the implications of that.
